About Us
Hi, my name is Sarah. Welcome to the heart of WeeShire Mains!
More than just a farm, we're a dream born from a parent's love, a family's journey, and the profound impact we've witnessed nature and animals have on those we cherish most. Our founders, Ken and Sarah, were inspired to create this special place by their two wonderful boys, both diagnosed with autism.
Like many families navigating the complexities of autism, we spent countless hours traveling to doctors' appointments, physical and occupational therapy sessions, and various other specialists for our sons. Through this journey, we witnessed firsthand the profound impact that calm environments and gentle, engaging activities could have. It was during this time that a thoughtful physical therapist suggested something truly transformative: many of the sensory activities and tasks she was doing with our boys could actually be done right here on our own property. She even visited our land to demonstrate, sharing her expertise and helping us plant the seed of what WeeShire Mains could become – a nurturing and sensory-friendly space close to home.
As we began to explore this idea, we also noticed the remarkable benefits that Ken, "Dad," who suffered a brain injury in 2019 and a stroke in 2024, experienced when spending time outdoors and engaging with animals. The peace he found in nature and the gentle interactions with our growing menagerie further solidified our vision for WeeShire Mains – a place of healing and connection for everyone.
Our mission is deeply personal creating a welcoming sensory farm offering peace, connection, and joy for all families, including those with neurodiversity and brain injury.
Inspired by the needs and strengths of our sons and the unexpected comfort and progress we observed in "Dad," we are dedicated to providing a supportive environment where the simple joys of interacting with miniature animals and the beauty of the natural world can nurture the soul and foster growth for all.
"Animals offer a world understood beyond words, a realm of pure sensory experience and unconditional acceptance.”
— Inspired by Temple Grandin
